Description
A critical component of a Cisco IP Telephony implementation is Cisco’s Unified Cisco Communications Manager. This course, therefore, is an important ingredient for any engineer that strives to master Cisco’s approach to IP Telephony. Cisco Unified Communications IP Telephony (CIPT) Part 2 v6.0 extends your knowledge of multisite deployments, redundancy, bandwidth management, security, and features available in multisite deployments. This course provides the opportunity to practice configurations using Flash-based lab simulations, while informing you of the processes, procedures, features, and applications associated with a Cisco IP telephony solution.

Skills Taught
After completing this course, the student should be able to:
  • Discuss multisite deployment issues and methods of addressing these issues.
  • Understand and configure a dial plan.
  • Use Cisco Unified SRST, MGCP fallback, and Cisco Unified Communications Manager Express in Cisco Unified SRST mode to provide resiliency for an IP telephony network.
  • Prevent WAN oversubscription using call admission control (CAC).
  • Use Cisco IOS TCL and VoiceXML applications, in addition to mobility features (for example, Cisco Unified Communications Manager Device Mobility, Cisco Unified Communications Manager Extension Mobility, and Cisco Unified Mobility), to access users via their office phone numbers, regardless of their physical location and the various devices they might use.
  • Protect a Cisco IP telephony deployment using supported security technologies.
Audience
Cisco Unified Communications IP Telephony Part 2 (CIPT2) v6.0 is designed for students with a solid background in Cisco networking. The course is ideal for technicians who use or are training to use the Cisco Unified Communications Manager product. It is also beneficial for students who build Cisco voice architectures. CIPT2 v6.0 is recommended for students attempting Cisco’s CCVP certification or pursuing Cisco IP Telephony specializations.

Prerequisites
To benefit fully from this course, students should have the following prerequisite skills and knowledge:
  • Working knowledge of fundamental terms and concepts of computer networking, including LANs, WANs, and IP switching and routing
  • Ability to configure and operate Cisco routers and switches and to enable VLANs
  • Ability to configure voice interfaces on Cisco voice-enabled equipment for connection to traditional (that is, nonpacketized) telephony equipment, and to configure POTS and VoIP dial peers
  • Basic internetworking skills taught in the Interconnecting Cisco Network Devices Part 1 (ICND1) course, or its equivalent
